Chadron State College’s Josh Majerus, ranked #1 at 197 pounds all season, capped off a stellar junior campaign by claiming his first national championship with an 8-3 decision over Donovan McMahill of Western State during the final round of the 2008 NCAA Division II National Wrestling Championships.
“It feels great,” said Majerus, a former Boone Central Cardinal standout. “I went into the tournament pretty confident and I was able to take that through the entire thing. It hasn’t really hit me yet, but I know the poster of the bracket is going on my wall as soon as I get home.”
Majerus ends his junior season with a 37-3 record, including an undefeated record against Division II competition. In addition to being named an All-American for the second-straight year (Majerus was 197-pound national runner-up in 2007), he was also named a First-Team Academic All-American during the tournament.
