Six Cardinals Are Mid-State All-Conference

All-Conference, l to r, Zoucha, Shotkoski, Paulson, Luettel, Temme, BeckwithCapping a very successful 2008-09 season, six Cardinal players were named to the Mid-State All-Conference girls and boys basketball teams in a vote by league coaches, including four girls from Boone Central’s Mid-State regular season and conference tournament championship team.
Seniors Brittany Luettel, Stephanie Paulson and Julua Temme and sophomore Bobbi Beckwith were named to the Mid-State All-Conference girls first team. The Cards’ fifth regular starter, senior Emily Wells, received Honorable Mention.
Seniors Ryan Shotkoski and Kalvin Zoucha copped first team Mid-State All-Conference honors on the boys side.
Joining the four Cardinals on the girls all-conference list were Hartington C.C. senior Kala Sudbeck, Pierce junior Heather Wachter, junior Cali Bellar of Norfolk Catholic, Wayne senior Nicole Rauner and senior Shelby Randel and sophomore Beth Stratmann of West Point C.C.
Along with Shotkoski and Zoucha, boys named to the Mid-State first team were Battle Creek senior Robert Barry, Madison senior Derek Becker, senior Brad Pieper and junior Jarren Heng of Norfolk Catholic, Pierce seniors Eric Koehlmoos, Tony Lauters and Jacob Wolslager and senior Ben Knobbe of West Point C.C.
Stephanie Paulson, 6-0 senior, received Mid-State All-Conference recognition for the second consecutive season in 2008-09. Paulson was Boone Central’s leading scorer during the Cards’ 21-3 season, averaging 10.8 points in a balanced line-up. She also topped BC in rebounding (5.9), tied for first in blocked shots (20) and averaged 1.8 steals per game.
Brittany Luettel, 5-9 senior, was named to the all-conference first team after receiving honorable mention each of the previous two seasons. Luettel led the Cardinals in assists (3.8) and tied for first in blocked shots (20). She averaged 7.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per contest.
Julia Temme, 5-9 senior, was another first-time all-conference selection this year. Temme led Boone Central with 43 three-point field goals in 2008-09 while shooting 39 percent beyond the arc. She averaged 7.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.4 assists.
Bobbi Beckwith, 5-8, was one of two sophomores on the ‘08-09 Mid-State all-conference team. Beckwith was the Cardinal leader in steals (2.9), second in scoring (10.0) and second in three-point field goals (31). She also averaged 3.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
Ryan Shotkoski, 6-3 senior, was named Mid-State all-conference for the second straight season. Shotkoski led the 15-8 Cardinals with 19.5 points per game in 2008-09. He also topped Boone Central in assists (3.2), steals (2.6) and three-point field goals (35), averaged 4.0 rebounds per game and sank 80 percent of his free throws.
Kalvin Zoucha, 6-5 senior, was a first-time all-conference selection in 2008-09 after having the best rebounding season in Boone Central history (10.3 per game). Zoucha averaged 11.8 points per contest, blocked a team-high 40 shots and made 1.2 steals per game while shooting 47 percent from the field.
