Karen Siems, a resident of Raeville, earned a first place award in the recent World Leather Debut, held in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Leather Trade Show at Sheridan, WY. This annual show is open to leather crafters worldwide.
Karen’s winning leather wall hanging is a three dimensional picture of an Indian paint pony. The World Leather Debut is a week-long series of seminars and workshops, as well as a trade show for leather artists, held May 15-17. The show is opened to the public on the weekend, and entries are judged by some of the top leather artists in the nation. It is one of the top shows for leather artists.
The same picture also earned Siems a Best of Category Award in the International Federation of Leather Guilds Show held in Columbus, OH, in September, 2008. She completed the picture during the summer of 2008.
Several of her previous leather art works that have also earned top awards in national and international competition.
