The Boone Central volleyball team improved to 4-6 by splitting matches in the Madison Triangular and Central City Invitational this past week.
The Cardinals opened the week by sweeping Madison in straight sets – 25-14, 25-14.
Statistics reflected Boone Central’s dominance. The Cards served at an 87 percent success rate, returned 89 percent of opposition serves and hit at a blistering .666 clip.
Megan Bygland and Bobbi Beckwith led the atack with seven and six kills, respectively. Erica Carder had 13 set assists and eight digs in the match. Boone Central found tougher going against C1 Top 10 Norfolk Catholic, dropping a 17-25, 14-25 decision. Cardinal hitting fell off to .243 against the athletic Lady Knights.
Erica Carder again led assists with seven and Bygland topped kills with four. Brooke Michael made 12 digs for the Cardinals and Emily Carder added nine. The Cardinals scored another impressive win in the Central City Invitational before dropping matches to Norfolk Catholic and the host Bison.
In a 25-19, 25-10 victory over Gibbon, Boone Central hit at a strong .420 rate while serving 96 percent and making just one serve reception error.
Erica Carder directed the attack with 14 assists, setting up Bygland for seven kills and Struebing for five. Struebing was also a defensive barrier at the net with four solo blocks and two block assists. The Cardinals again dropped a straight-set match to Norfolk Catholic – 19-25, 12-25. BC was again over 90 percent serving and passing while hitting .333.
Beckwith and Bygland each had four kills as Erica Carder recorded nine assists. Beckwith, Bygland and Emily Carder had six digs each.
In an exciting, competitive match with Central City, Boone Central opened with a 25-19 victory before the Bison rallied to win the match with 25-19, 25-18 decisions.
Erica Carder paced the Cards with 15 assists, while Bygland topped kills with eight. Beckwith added six kills and a team-high 13 digs.
