Boone Central had a busy week to wrap up the 2009 softball regular season, competing in triangulars at West Point and Twin River Sept. 28-29 and finishing at St. Paul Oct. 1.
The Cardinals will play in the Class C-5 District tournament at Central City Thursday, facing St. Paul in a rematch at 11 a.m.
Boone Central (6-22) opened last week by dropping a 2-1 nine-inning heartbreaker to host West Point C.C. Boone Central also dropped the nightcap to Lutheran High NE, 7-3. The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead and BC could not overcome the deficit. The Cardinals ran into tough competition Tuesday at Silver Creek. Host Twin River, ranked in the Class C Top 10, defeated BC 12-3. The Cards had some offensive success, compiling seven hits, but committed five errors, including two in Twin River’s five-run first inning. Boone Central also had trouble shutting down Cross County in a 10-4 loss. The Cougars pounded out 10 hits and took advantage of three BC errors. Boone Central concluded the regular season with a competitive 4-1 defeat at St. Paul Thursday. BC trailed by a single run through five innings, but the hosts scored twice in the sixth and the Cards stranded runners at second and third bases in the seventh.
