With the 2009 Mid-State Conference and C1-7 Sub-District tournaments looming, Boone Central’s volleyball team scored a pair of important victories in a home triangular meet Tuesday, Oct. 20.
The Cardinals improved their season record to 7-12 by sweeping matches over Twin River (15-10) and Fullerton (4-21) and, hopefully, picked up some momentum for the season’s stretch run.
Boone Central opened with a 25-20, 25-18 decision over the Twin River Titans.
The Cardinal success started at the service line as Boone Central was successful on 96 percent of its serves with three aces. The Cards were just under 80 percent returning serve, but were strong at the net, hitting at a healthy .432 kill rate on overall 82 percent hitting profficiency.
Emily Carder, Jaime Kennedy and Megan Bygland led Boone Central with five kills apiece. Erica Carder directed the attack with 10 assists on 30 sets.
Boone Central capped the night with a dominant 25-14, 25-17 victory over Fullerton.
Although the serving percentage dropped to 81 percent against the Warriors, the aggressive Cardinals did score eight aces. Service reception percentage increased to 91 percent and BC continued to hit at a strong .394 clip (91 percent overall).
Bygland had a strong scoring match, ripping six ace serves and leading kills with five. Bobbi Beckwith added four kills and Emily Carder three. Erica Carder again topped assists with nine on 34 sets.
