Crofton Clips Cardinal Cagers

The Boone Central Cardinals traveled north to face a salty Crofton (16-4) squad Friday, Feb. 19, and dropped a 54-40 decision, closing out the regular season with an 8-12 record.
Boone Central opened play in the C1-7 Sub-District Tuesday against Columbus Scotus (9-9). The winner plays Thursday in the sub-district final at Columbus High School (7 p.m.).
The Cardinals played a solid game at Crofton overall, but got in a hole they could not climb out of with a sluggish second period.
“Weak second-quarter defense, defensive rebounding and turnovers really hurt our chances against Crofton,” commented Boone Central Coach Dan Zoucha. “We had a good start and finish, but some things in that second quarter were too much to overcome.
“We allowed six points on offensive rebounds by Crofton and those are tough points to get back. We finished with 11 turnovers and eight of those were in the first half – five in the second quarter.
“We did outrebound Crofton and we did see some offensive spark from several players,” Zoucha added. “That is encouraging with sub-district play beginning.”

Trey Sorell led BC scoring with 15 points and added five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
