Area Cagers Receive Postseason Honors

Boone Central’s Bobbi Beckwith and Melissa Berger of Spalding/Spalding Academy were recently named to the G.I. Independent’s All-Heartland Girls Basketball Super Squad and a number of Albion News area athletes have received regional and state awards for their play during the 2009-10 season.
Beckwith, a 5-9 junior guard, averaged 11.4 points, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals for Boone Central’s 20-4 state tournament qualifier. Cardinal Coach Mike Kennedy commented, “Bobbi is a leader by example. She is quiet by nature, but sets an example with her work ethic”.
Berger, 5-4 senior guard,  poured in 17.1 points per game for Spalding/Spalding Academy (14-9) and scored 1,231 career points. Knight Coach Stephanie Wlaschin had high praise for her star, “I hate to see Melissa go as a coach. She’s not only a great athlete, she’s an even better kid. She’s a positive role model, not just on the court, but in the community.”
