A change in zoning to allow a concrete crushing plant along 250th Street, northeast of the city limits, was approved by the Albion City Council duirng its monthly meeting Tuesday, May 11.
Ralph Pilkingon, current owner of the land, requested the zoning change from transitional agriculture (TA) to light industrial (I-1) for the crushing operation.
Pilkington said the change would allow a business in the community, with convenient access from 250th Street, and steps will be taken to minimize impact on the neighborhood.
Steve Bygland, who plans to build the plant, said he will fence the property, plant trees along the north and west sides of the plant, and control dust. Crushing would likely take place one to two days a week, he said.
