City well plan to be modified

A new well plan with fewer “bells and whistles” will be created for the City of Albion after a special city council meeting last Tuesday night, June 22.

The council had learned June 8 that the low bid for the initial well and equipment design was $341,721, or about $90,000 higher than the original engineer’s estimate of $250,000. At that time, the council elected to table the awarding of the bid until the June 22 special meeting, and directed the engineer to work with the low bidder to negotiate the project cost down.

Mayor Jim Jarecki and the council discussed possible changes in the project with engineer John Zwingman and Tracy McConnell of Grosch Irrigation, the low bid contractor.
