Albion Juniors End Season With District Play

Temme prepares the tagAlbion’s Post #162 American Legion Juniors can only wish baseball was like horseshoes.
Albion came tantalizingly close to victory twice in last week’s Class B Area 5 District Tournament at the Albion Sports Complex, but ultimately exited the competition with two frustrating losses to close its season.
Albion, seeded 6th in the eight-team event, opened district play with a 4-2 loss to #3 seed Pierce Thursday, July 15.
The key to the contest was Pierce pitcher Brandon Freeman, who held the local Juniors to just two hits through the initial six innings while striking out seven batters.

After playing from behind throughout its elimination game vs. Central City Friday, Albion rallied to tie the score with a seventh-inning run, only to fall 6-5 when Central City scored the game-winner by stealing home in the bottom of the eighth.

Complete details of the district tournament and Albion’s games available in print & online editions of Albion News.
