2010 Champs Crowned At Boone County Raceway

Mark Lueken (12) and Mike Kelley (17) battle in LM A FeatureAlthough all drivers atop the Boone County Raceway season point standings held an edge going into Friday’s Championship Night finale, three of the four left nothing to chance by sweeping to A Feature victories and wrapping up 2010 titles.
Crowned as Boone County Raceway 2010 champions in the four main classes of competition following Friday’s card were Jason Wilkinson of Neligh (Hobby Stock) and Albion drivers Mark Hooker (Stock Car), Tyler Iverson (Modified) and Mark Lueken (Late Model). Gary Reber of Gregory, SD also won the title for the BCR’s abbreviated Holt County Sprints series.
Wilkinson (52) wrapped up a dominant Hobby Stock campaign, during which he led every week, by beating his closest season challenger, Atkinson’s Dusty Poessnecker (22JR), to the line in the August 20 Championship Night A Feature.

Iverson (98T) also defeated his nearest season rivals in the Championship Night Modified A Feature, taking the checkered flag in front of Steve Reynolds (96R) of Springfield, SD and Albion’s Lueken (12). Iverson’s final margin over Lueken was seven points, the closest finish of the BCR’s regular four classes.

In somewhat of a theme for the night, Lueken (12) also capped his 2010 season title by outdueling fellow Albion driver and season runner-up Mike Kelley (17) in the Championship Night Late Model A event.

Although Hooker (30) did not win Friday in Stock Car competition, he accomplished his mission of securing the 2010 season crown with a sixth-place finish, just one spot behind nearest challenger Wilkinson (52). That result gave the Albion driver a final 10-point edge in the standings.

The Holt County Sprints also finished their BCR short season Friday with Reber (8R) taking the season championship despite a fifth-place finish in the Championship Night A Feature. Following heat races won by Adam Walton (42AJ) of Ewing and Humston (1M), Humston also won the night’s A event in front of Waverly’s Doug Lovegrove. Walton, who needed to gain ground on the South Dakota leader entering the final night, placed sixth and finished three points back in the season standings.
