A big crowd is expected in downtown Albion this Saturday for a new event, “Rhythm ‘n Ribs,” sponsored by the Albion Chamber of Commerce.
The activities will be on Fourth Street between Main and Church Streets, and will feature a barbecue competition, music and other attractions for all ages.
A total of 12 barbecue teams had reserved spots in the competition as of Monday, and as many as 15 teams are expected to reserve before Saturday. Grillers will be coming from Lincoln, Fremont and Norfolk, as well as the Boone County area.
There will be an admission charge at the gate, and arm bands will be required for the beer garden.
Everyone is invited to take part in a “People’s Choice” judging of the various barbecued foods, other than ribs, from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
The beer garden opens at 10 a.m., and live music begins at 1 p.m.
Musical entertainment starts with “Slingshot,” a country/classic rock band from Hastings, from 1 to 5 p.m. From 5 to 9 p.m., a one-man band, Dave Merkel of Lincoln, will perform. Closing out with a concert and dance, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., will be “Monkey Puzzle,” rock band from Omaha.
