Boone Central opened the 2010 volleyball season at O’Neill Thursday, Sept. 2.
The Cardinal varsity dropped their initial match of the season in straight sets – 8-25, 17-25, 13-25.
“The girls met up with a challenging team in O’Neill,” commented Boone Central Coach Erin Eickhoff. “We had normal first-game jitters, which were amplified due to the fact that none of the girls had really seen varsity playing time before.
“The varsity is composed of two seniors, two juniors, three sophomores and three freshmen. The girls improved and became more comfortable with each other and the sport with each set, it just wasn’t enough to overcome the scoring deficit.
“The girls showed heart and willingness to make mistakes and learn from them,” Eickhoff added. “They are gaining experience and confidence with this new team.”
“They will learn with each team they face and they are capable of doing some great things this season.”
Eickhoff said serving was a strong point in the opening match as the Cards were 93 percent at the line. Jenna Lehmann led Boone Central with five kills. Devon Doelder and Marissa Beierman each added three.
