Boone Central Splits in Mid-State Softball Tournament

McKenzie Mescher with a hitThe Boone Central softball team began the stretch run of its season splitting four games in a tough Mid-State Conference Tournament field at Wayne September 20-21.
The Cardinals were scheduled to play two games in a triangular Tuesday at the Albion Sports Complex and will host St. Paul Thursday before returning to Wayne for district tournament action October 7-8.
Boone Central opened the Mid-State tourney Monday, Sept. 20, by shellacking Madison 12-0 in three innings.
“The girls hit well, ran the bases hard and had an errorless game,” noted Coach Cassie Olson. “A great way to start the conference tournament.”

The tables were turned later Monday as Wayne, ranked 2nd in Class C, blanked the Cardinals 8-0 behind a no-hit pitching effort by Cassie Miller.
“The girls battled in the box. They got the bat on the ball, but just couldn’t get anything through for a hit,” said Olson.

The resilient Cards rebounded as Lee singled home Glidden in the bottom of the 7th inning for an 8-7 win over Lutheran High NE.
“This was a ‘nail-biter’, the girls dug in and didn’t give up,” praised Olson. “I don’t know who was shaking more, Kelsey or me … she was clutch!
“So proud of how the girls worked as a team for this win!”

“The girls played well, but just couldn’t get the ‘domino effect’ going with the bats,” Olson commented. I’m very proud of their 3rd place conference finish.”
