BC Runners Strong At State; Pribnow Medals

Sophomore Cassidy Pribnow brought home a medal to lead Cardinal performers, sparking the BC girls to a 7th place team finish in Class C. Both Boone Central competitors in the boys ‘C’ race – Calvin Koziol and Jacob Lindgren – finished in the top 25 individually.
The meet was held on a near-perfect day for running with moderate temperatures under an intermittent cloud cover. Those conditions produced outstanding performances and times, including a third consecutive Class D gold medal for Lindsay Holy Family’s Andrea Weeder in her best time over the Kearney course and a new girls state meet record by Aubree Worden of Scotssbluff.
Dickey Pleased With Day
“The state meet went extremely well for us!” exclaimed Boone Central Coach Tom Dickey. “The kids went to the line really confident of what they could do and had a good plan in their heads. Our key runners did exactly what they needed to do and really did a fantastic job!
“In the girls race, Cassidy and Jaime (Kennedy) put themselves in perfect position with just over one kilometer to go. Jaime was actually well back in the 30s just before that point, but she kept the pressure on and caught girls as they came back to her. Cassidy had seperated herself from any medal threats from behind and held on to her important position during the run to the finish (they give 15 medals).
“The other girls all ran good, steady races that enabled us to place 7th,” Dickey praised. “This is a fantastic result. I would not have thought it possible earlier in the season and could only hope for it before the race.
“They just did a wonderful job!”
Pribnow clocked a time of 16:08 over the 4,000 meter course on her way to 14th. Kennedy placed 20th with a time of 16:30. Rounding out the Cardinal effort were Bobbi Beckwith (66th, 17:49), Cassie Lindgren (80th, 18:22), Ann Rozeboom (91st, 19:35)  and Erin Grundmayer (92nd, 19:41).
Big Strides For BC Boys
“The boys had a really tough row to hoe,” Dickey commented. “It’s really hard for individuals who have placed in the lower qualifying spots from district meets to handle the pressure and speed of the state meet.
“Both Calvin and Jacob followed our plan perfectly and just kept creeping up in the race. Considering that both guys finished in the 60s last year, placing in the top 25 was a wonderful achievement!”
Koziol took 21st Friday with a 5,000 meter time of 17:32. Lindgren was 25th in 17:40.
All in all, a great day for the Cardinal runners and one they could take pride in, said Dickey.
“We walked away from the course bursting our buttons!”
