The Boone Central softball team showed considerable improvement in 2010 during Coach Cassie Olson’s second season at the helm and will return a good portion of its roster a year from now.
The Cardinals finished the past campaign with an 11-17 record, including several close losses to teams that competed in the Class C state tournament and finished in the class top ten.
Five BC players received numerous postseason honors as well. Sophomore Terri Molt was selected to the Grand Island Independent All-Heartland Super Squad and received All-State Honorable Mention by the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal-Star. Seniors Brooke Michael and Sara Wells received G.I. All-Heartland Honorable Mention, while junior Maria Glidden and sophomore Kelsey Lee were in the World-Herald Honorable Mention list.
Molt sparked the Cardinal offense from the lead-off position in 2010, batting a team-best .506 and leading the squad in hits (40), runs (27) and stolen bases (17).
Michael handled the bulk of varsity pitching duties, finishing with an 11-16 record and 4.86 earned run average. She allowed 191 hits in 167 innings and struck out 89 while walking 67.
