Laredo Ridge wind farm, northeast of Petersburg, is now in the process of testing for eventual commissioning of all of its 54 wind generation towers.
The pre-commissioning testing schedule is a six-week process that has been underway for about 2 1/2 weeks, explained John Richards, an engineer with Nebraska Public Power District and a 1966 graduate of Albion High School.
At the beginning of this process, each turbine generator was manually inspected, and electrical tests were performed on each one.
“There are hundreds of wires in each generator,” said Richards. “If any two wires are out of place, you’ve got a big problem.”
