At a special meeting Thursday evening, Jan. 27, school board members and administrators from Boone Central and Newman Grove Public Schools expressed a willingness to work together on student activity programs — possibly beginning as early as next school year.
The meeting had been requested by Newman Grove’s board and administration last month to discuss cooperative junior high and/or high school activities.
Newman Grove is also meeting with school leaders from Lindsay and Tilden Elkhorn Valley to discuss possible cooperative programs. Newman Grove and Lindsay Holy Family already have a cooperative program in junior high girls basketball.
Newman Grove Superintendent Herb Pokorny said the school is exploring cooperative programs due to small class sizes primarily in the elementary and junior high grades currently. The school district is interested in cooperative junior high programs starting next year (2011-12) and possibly high school programs starting as early as 2012-13.
