For the first time in the 2010-11 season, a young Boone Central boys basketball team posted a back-to-back victory, defeating host Battle Creek 52-43 Friday, Jan. 28.
Not only was the win welcome and a sign of progress in a 6-10 campaign, but Cardinal coaches were hoping the decision, following a solid victory over Ord the previous week, would provide momentum for Boone Central in facing the stern challenge of this week’s Mid-State Conference tournament.
“Gaining some momentum prior to the conference tournament was our goal several weeks ago,” said BC Coach Dan Zoucha. “This win, coupled with the win over Ord, is giving us that momentum.
“We had some very solid performances against Battle Creek. We see this as a good sign for our team.”
Boone Central had a strong start in Friday’s contest, holding the hosts to single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters while building a 41-25 advantage.
“In this game, we were very close to opening up a very substantial lead,” Zoucha commented. “We were up 16 going into the final quarter. Battle Creek hit some shots in that quarter and we hurried on offense and the result was a nine-point win.
“We continue to improve and the work ethic of our team is great. We are looking forward to the challenges of the conference tournament.”
