Laredo Ridge begins commercial operation

Commercial operation of the Laredo Ridge wind farm near Petersburg began officially on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, according to Nebraska Public Power District.

The beginning of commercial operation means that NPPD will begin paying Edison Mission Energy at full contracted rates for electricity generated by the wind farm. A reduced rate was paid for the power during the testing phase, which began in November.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, Laredo Ridge was generating nearly 52 megawatts of electricity on the NPPD system.
