Edison Mission Project Manager Matt Winter, I & E Technician Kyle Fritz and Administrative Assistant Ashley Thieman met with the noon lunch group for a brief discussion regarding the wind farm. Winter explained that Laredo Ridge is an 80 megawatt field and the turbines must run at 1200 rpm to create electricity. Since the towers have been running, there has only been one day without enough wind, which is very unusual.
They are now in the process of doing a bird impact study, and they also plan to meet with the fire department to discuss what would be expected if a situation should occur. Both Fritz and Winter stressed accidents at these sites are rare.
They also expressed a desire to move to the Petersburg area if housing became available.
