The Boone Central softball team has hardly been able to catch its breath.
After hosting Wayne and Pierce for a triangular last Tuesday and Wisner-Pilger for a Senior Night contest Thursday, the Cardinals traveled to Grand Island Saturday for the Northwest Invitational.
Boone Central (11-7) then played host to the Mid-State Conference Tournament Monday and Tuesday.
While its been a hectic stretch on the diamond, it’s also been a successful one for the Cards. Part of the success was a third place finish in the always-tough GINW Invite, as Boone Central sandwiched victories over High Plains and Aurora around a loss to the host Vikings.
Boone Central opened Saturday with a solid 6-2 decision over High Plains.
“An all-around good game – some great hits and solid defense!” praised Coach Cassie Olson.
G.I. Northwest broke open a tight game with six runs in the late innings to defeat Boone Central 7-2 in second-round play.
“It was a very intense game,” Olson commented. “The girls held the lead until the fifth, then we had errors snowball.”
Boone Central bounced back impressively, defeating Aurora 8-3 to earn third place.
“What a sweet way to end the day!” Olson exclaimed. “The girls made great contact at the plate and were aggressive on the bases.”
