Council approves loan for new treatment plant

Albion City Council took another step last Tuesday night, Oct. 11, toward construction of the new city wastewater treatment plant.

The council authorized execution of a $3 million loan from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality to the city.

The total estimated project cost is $4 million, but the city has been notified it will receive forgiveness of $250,000 in loan principal from DEQ and is also expected to qualify for a $250,000 small town grant from DEQ.

The city also has $500,000 in reserve funds to help with the cost of the new plant.
