The numbers told the story in Boone Central’s 2011 post-season opener.
What happens when you outrush a team 329 to 106? When you hold an opponent to 126 total yards and eight first downs? When you get seven turnovers from a foe and commit none?
The Cardinals parlayed all those numbers Thursday and the result was a 60-7 pummeling of Gordon/Rushville in the qualifying round of the 2011 Nebraska State Football Playoffs at the Boone Central athletic field in Albion.
Boone Central (7-2) actually hampered itself with 12 penalties for 110 yards in the contest, but was so dominant that the occasional sloppy play went nearly unnoticed.
The Cardinals also spotted the visitors a 7-0 lead before reeling off 60 straight points, including a 27-point second quarter that put the outcome beyond doubt by intermission.
Boone Central, seeded #6 in the Class C1 west bracket, plays next at #3 seed Minden tonight (Wednesday, 6 p.m.). The Whippets are 9-0 in 2011 and ranked #5 by the Omaha World-Herald.
