The Boone Central Lady Cardinals improved to 5-0 and prepared for a shot at Class C1 #2 Minden Monday by dispatching Twin River and West Holt last week.
Boone Central jumped on host Twin River early Tuesday and scored a 49-34 victory at Genoa.
The Cardinals came out blazing and raced to a 19-4 1st quarter lead as Jaime Kennedy rained in a pair of 3-point field goals and Jade Gottier canned another while scoring five points. The duo each added another trey in the 2nd period as BC opened a 32-15 halftime advantage.
“We got off to a very good start. Early in the game we were very active defensively and very sharp on offense,” commented Cardinal Coach Mike Kennedy. “It was great basketball by the Lady Cards in that 1st half.”
Boone Central kept rolling Saturday with a 67-42 victory over visiting West Holt in Albion.
After a fast start (9-1 lead), Boone Central allowed West Holt to gain some momentum and led 29-22 at halftime. The Cardinals caught fire midway through the 3rd period and an 18-4 run put the contest out of reach. Kennedy, Seda and Gottier all nailed 3-point shots during the streak.
“We defended well early and jumped out to a 9-1 lead, but let them back in the game late in the 1st quarter and early in the 2nd,” Kennedy said. “Our aggressive defense was a little too aggressive. Our fouls sent them to the free throw line 32 times in the game. It’s a fine line to walk between playing hard and committing fouls – we have to improve in this area.”
