The Boone Central wrestling team finished the pre-holiday portion of its 2011-12 season with a dual match at David City Aquinas Friday, Dec. 23. The competition was postponed earlier in the season by weather conditions.
While the Cardinals dropped a 40-30 decision and won just two contested matches, Coach Dale Bonge said his team can take some things away from the event that will benefit BC in the future.
“Going into the dual, Aquinas was favored to win six of the nine contested matches. We were favored in one and the other two were toss-ups.” Bonge noted. “Jake Meyer won the only match we were favored in. Brent Janzen ended the night with a gutsy performance, getting a third-period pin in a wild and high-scoring affair.
“Aquinas won five of the six they were favored in and both toss-up matches went their way.
“Injuries, illness and Christmas break cost each team a few wrestlers, with both teams open at 132 and 152,” he continued. “Aquinas was also open at three more weights where Mark O’Brien, Scott Joe and Jackson Meyer picked up wins by forfeit.
“Not exactly the way we wanted to go into the Christmas break, but we found a few little things, that with proper adjustments, will make a big difference down the road.”
