Although total values were not as large as the previous year, Boone County had an excellent year for new construction in 2011.
The past year’s building activity for rural Boone County, and the communities of Albion, Cedar Rapids and Petersburg, represented a total investment of more than $71.1 million. A total of 230 building or construction permits were issued.
A majority of this year’s construction value was again attributed to wind farm construction. The Third Planet Windpower wind farm total construction value was listed at $56,270,00. This total includes 27 wind towers valued at $2 million each, the substation valued at $2 million, and the operations and maintenance building in Petersburg valued at $270,000.
