With approval of an interlocal agreement Monday, Boone County officially joined with Nance and Merrick counties for emergency management services.
Boone County Commissioners approved the agreement on a unanimous vote.
A committee of representatives from all three counties have been formulating the interlocal agreement for several months. It is effective through the 2013-14 fiscal year. They have already hired Jan Zurcher of Columbus, a former Red Cross employee, as the three-county emergency manager.
Zurcher began her duties Jan. 3, 2012. She will be required to move from Columbus into one of the three participating counties by July 1, 2012.
