Facing challenging competition, the Boone Central Cardinal wrestlers earned seven individual medals and placed fifth in the team standings of the Boone Central Invitational Saturday.
Senior Jake Meyer led the Cardinals with a runner-up finish at 145 pounds. Senior Bobby Stopak (120) and sophomore Kody Sock (195) also had just one loss each in the meet and placed third.
Class A powerhouse Kearney won the competition with 238.5 points, followed by Madison (197.5), O’Neill (154.5), David City (129) and Boone Central (95).
“Our tournament held with tradition, being very tough and competitive with Kearney, ranked #3 in Class A, and Madison, #1 in Class C, along with some highly-rated individuals throughout the field,” stated Cardinal Coach Dale Bonge. “We had a respectable showing. We are continuing to see overall improvement, especially compared to this meet last year when we placed 10th with only four placewinners.”
Joining Meyer, Stopak and Sock as Boone Central medalists in 2012 were Jackson Meyer (4th), Skyler Weber (4th), Sammy Stopak (6th) and Cody Shanno (6th).
