The Boone Central track & field teams placed fifth in the girls and boys divisions of the 2012 Blue Devil Invite held Tuesday, April 3, at Wayne.
Coach Kris Pestel said the competition in a difficult field of teams benefited the Cardinal squads.
“The Wayne Invite was an extremely competitive meet,” Pestel commented. I was very pleased with our level of competitiveness against many quality teams and individual performers.
“We had several great performances and battles in both track and field events. We found out where we stand with some of the teams in our conference and district and now we know we have lots of work to do before those conference and district meets.”
Columbus Scotus scored team victories in both the girls and boys competition at Wayne. The Shamrocks scored 113 points in the boys division to finish well ahead of runner-up Lakeview (87) and had a 128-110 advantage over second-place Aquinas in the girls division. Boone Central scored 59 points in boys competition and 57 in the girls division, finishing in the middle of the 11-team fields.
Boone Central had three gold medal performances by Lady Cardinals. Jaime Kennedy raced to victory in the 400 meter dash (1:01.8), Breann Thorberg blazed to a win in the 200 dash (27.0) and Maria Glidden topped the shot put competition (36’4).
Striking gold for the Card boys were Nick Paulson, Parker Struebing, Carter Johnson and Blake Slizoski in the 4×100 meter relay (46.0).
The BC boys were strong in all relay events at Wayne. Along with the 4×100 victory, Brody Kelley, Calvin Koziol, Trevor Salber and Tony Krohn were runners-up in the 4×800 (8:41.9) and Krohn, Struebing, Johnson and Logan Olson placed third in the 4×400 (3:39.3).
