O’Neill finished a comfortable 10 strokes in front of Battle Creek to win the 2012 Boone Central Invitational golf tournament Saturday at the Albion Country Club.
The tournament was shortened from the usual 18 holes to nine due to threatening weather conditions.
Boone Central’s varsity placed eighth in the 14-team field with three players breaking the 50-stroke mark.
Senior Kade Leetch led the Cardinals, placing 14th of 15 medalists with a round of 42. Alex Johnson carded a 44 for BC and Sean Soll added a 49. Brett Temme’s 55 was the final score used for the Cardinal team total. Jackson Meyer shot 61.
The Boone Central junior varsity also competed in the meet, finishing with a 220 team total.
Chris Ketteler led the Card JV with a solid 51. Bryce Paulson shot a 53, and rounds of 58 by Colton Mazour and Zach Wurdeman completed the team score. Luke Johnson shot 67.
Boone Central also hosted a triangular meet at the ACC Tuesday, April 10, finishing second.
Twin River won the competition with a 190 score, two strokes in front of the Cardinals (192). Fullerton (204) was third.
Leetch fired a 42 to pace BC. Hunter Henry shot 49, Soll carded a 50 and Meyer and Temme each finished at 51.
In JV play, Boone Central’s JV1 shot 215 and the BC JV2 finished at 251. Partial squads from Twin River and Fullerton finished at 237 and 241, respectively.
