Another busy week, four more victories for Albion’s 18 & under girls softball team.

Albion began last week splitting a doubleheader with Lakeview June 4 at Petersburg.
In a 19-7 victory, Albion scored six first-inning runs to get off to a fast start. Lakeview narrowed the gap with four in the third, but Albion, sparked by Maria Glidden’s two-run triple, added three in the fourth and scored 10 in a sixth-inning outburst to put the game out of reach. Miranda Ketteler scored four runs in the contest and Glidden had three RBI and three runs scored.
Albion could not get untracked at the plate in the other contest, dropping a 2-7 decision to the visitors.
The 18-unders hosted Atkinson in Albion the following night and held on for a 6-4 victory after taking a 6-0 lead. Shannon Stuhlmiller knocked in two runs and Glidden and Kelsey Lee one apiece in a four-run fourth for Albion. Atkinson scored three in the sixth inning and another run in the seventh before Albion pitcher Gina Nelson shut the door.
Albion closed the week by sweeping a pair of wins against visiting Kelly’s 18’s Wednesday, June 6.
The locals won a 7-6 extra-inning thriller with two runs in the eighth. After Kelly’s scored one in the top of the inning, Becca Reicks began the bottom half on second base and Abby Ervin drew a walk. Following a passed ball, Mariah Henn drove in Reicks with a fielder’s choice and Ervin scored the game-winner when Terri Molt reached by error.
Albion dominated the other game, scoring a 10-2 victory. With Taylor Pelster holding the visitors in check, Albion pounded out 10 hits, scoring four runs in the third inning and adding another four-run frame in the fifth. Molt, Stuhlmiller and Lee all scored two runs for the hosts. Pelster had three runs batted in and Nelson collected a pair of RBI.
