Cornerstone Legion Seniors Still Struggling

A difficult beginning to the 2012 summer season continued for the Cornerstone Legion Baseball Seniors in road tests this past week.
Cornerstone suffered double-digit losses at Norfolk and O’Neill June 5 and 7 to fall to 0-6. The Seniors return home this week, hosting Neligh tonight (Wednesday) and Ord Thursday at the Albion Sports Complex Legion Field.

Norfolk 16, Cornerstone 1
Host Norfolk ballooned a 7-0 lead to 15-0 in the fourth inning of a five-inning victory over the Cornerstone Seniors last Tuesday.
Albion pitchers Chris Bode, Colton Pelster and Derek Gentrup did not have much luck slowing Norfolk’s offensive output. The hosts collected 13 base hits and also took advantage of six walks and four batters hit-by-pitch.
Cornerstone plated its only run in the fifth, Trey Sorell walking and scoring on singles by Logan Olson and Parker Struebing.

O’Neill 16, Cornerstone 1
O’Neill parlayed two big early innings into a 16-1, five-inning victory over the Cornerstone Legion Seniors Thursday.
The host Irish jumped on Albion starter Sorell for five runs in the bottom of the second, the big blow a grand slam home run by Derek Bloomingstock following a pair of walks and a single.
Sorell and reliever Travis Kennedy continued to struggle with their control in the third. O’Neill plated eight runs in the inning despite getting just two hits. The hosts walked twice in the frame, had three batters hit-by-pitch and benefited from a Cornerstone error.
