Believe it or not — it’s almost time for the 2012 Boone County Fair!
Activity at the fairgrounds begins with entry day this Thursday, July 5. The fair opens Saturday, July 7, and continues through Wednesday, July 11.
Primary fairgrounds improvement this year will be additional lighting for the race track area. The process of installing new poles and lights at the track is ongoing and likely won’t be completely finished by fair time, according to Fair Board Chairman Dave Noble.
The fair office will be open 1 to 7 p.m. starting July 5 to sell advance carnival and Fun Book passes.
Entertainment begins Saturday, July 7, with a 5 p.m. Backyard Cookoff under the grandstand, followed by a new Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. and the Maverick Band from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in front of the grandstand.
Sunday’s events include the big Fair Parade set for Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the theme, “Let’s Have a Party.” Adding to the fair schedule this year will be the Gateway to the Sandhills Bullride on Sunday evening, July 8, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds arena. This event is sponsored by the Albion FFA Alumni.
Stock car racing is the main attraction Monday evening, July 9, with street stock and limited late model classes at 7:30 p.m.
Car Soccer is New Event
On Tuesday evening, July 10, the Combine Demolition Derby, Car Soccer and Barnyard Olympics begin at 7:30 p.m. in front of the grandstand.
The final night of the fair, Wednesday evening, July 10, will feature the Two-Car Chain Race and Tuff Trucks Competition to be held at 7:30 p.m. in front of the grandstand. D.C. Lynch Carnival will be operating on the grounds throughout the fair.
