No one told Amy Ahlers and the Boone Central girls golf team that graduation and injury was supposed to derail their Class C dominance. Or, if they did, the Cardinals weren’t listening.
Boone Central, three-time defending Class C state champions, continued an impressive 2012 start this past week by winning its second and third tournament titles of the season.
Ahlers, the team’s lone senior and a member of all three state championship teams, once again led the way while writing her name in the Cardinal record book.
Having opened the season with a victory in the West Holt Invitational, the Cardinals nipped Mid-State Conference foe Wayne Thursday for the Lakeview Invitational crown and shaded another conference rival – Norfolk Catholic – to garner the championship in Saturday’s Pierce Invite.
Ahlers won the individual gold medals in both events and sophomore teammate Melissa Kyncl was runner-up in both tournaments.
