BC/NG harriers runners-up in Mid-State

Led by senior Calvin Koziol, the Boone Central/Newman Grove cross country teams parlayed a number of personal-best performances into impressive runner-up finishes in the joint Bloomfield Invite/Mid-State Conference Championships at Bloomfield Oct. 5.
Koziol captured first-place honors in both the Bloomfield and Mid-State standings with a personal-best 17:25, while both Cardinal teams placed second to Crofton in Bloomfield and Conference scoring.
“Things went well,” acknowledged Card Coach Tom Dickey. “We were pleased to come out with plenty of personal bests and four runner-up places.”
Crofton topped the Cardinal girls 22-40 in Mid-State scoring and 26-47 in Bloomfield Invite scoring. The Warriors defeated the BC/NG boys 29-40 for the Mid-State championship and 37-48 for the Bloomfield title.
Trevor Salber placed 10th in the Mid-State (13th in Bloomfield standings) with a personal-best time of 18:05. The Lady Cardinals had two top ten runners – Hannah Schmitz (4th Mid-State, 5th Bloomfield) and Catherine Weeder (8th Mid-State, 10th Bloomfield).
Boone Central/Newman Grove will host the C-3 District meet Thursday at the Albion Country Club (4:30).
