Boone Central/Newman Grove’s 2012 varsity volleyball record stands at 9-10 following a split of road matches this past week.
The Lady Cardinals opened their week with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-21 victory at Fullerton Tuesday, Oct. 9.
“We played a well-balanced game,” noted Cardinal Coach Susan Roberts. “We continued our great serving – 97% with seven aces – and steady serve receive all match long.
“We put up a lot of great passes that led to 35 kills and a chance to really run our offense.
“Very pleased with the effort.”
Jade Gottier (10 kills) and Darienne Pokorny (9 kills) paced the BC/NG attack at the net, while setter Kaitlyn Stuhr dished out 28 assists. Gottier also had a strong game defensively with 10 digs and Rachel Lee made eight. Pokorny and Stuhr each fired two aces for the Cards.
Thursday, Boone Central/Newman Grove made the long trip north to face Mid-State Conference foe Hartington Cedar Catholic, dropping a 19-25, 16-25, 22-25 to the Class C2-ranked Lady Trojans.
“We’re still struggling to find a rhythm offensively and a consistent, high level of play,” said Roberts. “We execute really well at times, but struggle to sustain our momentum and execution.
“The girls are giving great effort and continue to work hard to improve.”
Lee led a balanced Card attack with eight kills, while Gottier and Pokorny each added six. Stuhr again topped assists with 20 and had two aces in the match. Pokorny was the dig leader with 16 and Marissa Beierman had three blocks.
