Brisk winds producing frigid, wintry weather conditions could not put a chill on the opening of Boone Central/Newman Grove’s 2012 Nebraska State Football Playoff experience Thursday, Oct. 25, in Albion.
The Cardinals, seeded #1 in the Class C1 west bracket, hosted 2-6 Ogallala for a Qualifying Round game and methodically ground out a 48-0 victory over the Indians.
The victory boosted Boone Central/Newman Grove’s season record to 8-1 and put the Cardinals in the C1 round of 16. BC/NG traveled to Imperial Wednesday to face 6-3 Chase County.
Thursday’s contest held little suspense.
As expected, Boone Central/Newman Grove dominated action from the opening kickoff and scored on each of its six first-half possessions to forge a 41-0 lead at intermission. In fact, the Cardinals had their way with such ease, they were never forced to punt in the contest.
“We did a good job of controlling this one from the start,” acknowledged BC/NG Coach Arnie Johnson. “It’s nice to be able to control the line of scrimmage.
“We did a good job in all areas and were able to use a lot of players.”
