The Boone Central boys bowling club and the Newman Grove Lady Jays are headed back to Lincoln for the Nebraska High School Bowling Federation State Championship Tournament.
The state competitions will be held Feb. 9-10 in bowling centers around the capital city.
Boone Central qualified for the Class C boys state tournament by placing second in the C-2 District last week. Also in the Class C field are Adams Central, C-2 champion North Bend, Ogallala, Wayne, Wisner-Pilger, Burwell and Sidney.
Class C competition begins Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at Sun Valley Lanes with a four-game block and best 3-of-5 single-elimination round using the Baker format. Saturday’s bowling will narrow the field to two teams that will compete for the Class C championship Sunday.
Newman Grove will be in the Class D girls tournament at Parkway Lanes. Competition will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday. Schools in the D field with the Lady Jays are Alma, McCool Junction, Scribner-Snyder, Ravenna, St. Francis, St. Cecelia and Doniphan-Trumbull.
NET, Nebraska Public Television, will televise this year’s finals over two Sundays. The girls finals will air Feb. 17, 8 a.m.-noon. The boys finals will be shown Feb. 24, also beginning at 8 a.m.
Boone Central team members are Justin Rasmussen, Nathan Hemmer, Robbie Johnson, Kaleb Kelly, Spencer Noble, Lane Cornwell and Bryce Kelley.
Newman Grove bowlers are Savannah Wiese, Megan Nelson, Emily Strong, Crystal Salinas, Marisol Hernandez, Shyanne McCuiston, Brittney Weinman and Skye Leonard.
