Water was cold for the ‘Polar Bear Dip’

A Polar Bear Dip participant reacts to the chilly water temperature Saturday.Water temperature in the Cedar River was just 38 degrees, but the 53 participants in the Polar Bear Dip at Cedar Rapids didn’t seem to mind.
They helped raise more than $700 for Cedar Cares for Kids, a local organization that helps children who have experienced tragedies or hardships.
The ninth annual Toma Rutten Memorial Polar Bear Dip was held Saturday, Feb. 23, at Mel’s Landing near Cedar Rapids. Other events included a chili judging contest, soup supper, ‘Family Feud’ contest and dance.
