The Lindsay Holy Family Lady Bulldogs entered the 2013 Nebraska Girls State Basketball Tournament in Lincoln with a sparkling 24-1 record, the #1 ranking in the Omaha World-Herald’s Class D2 Top 10, and one of D2’s top players in dominant junior center Kaylee Jensen.
Oh, and definite state championship aspirations too.
Well, because of Wynot.
Wynot High School ended Holy Family’s title bid with a hard-fought 43-40 victory Friday at the Pershing Center, the second time in three years the Blue Devils defeated LHF in the state semi-finals.
Wynot (25-4) advanced to its fourth consecutive D2 final and topped Osmond 60-52 Saturday to claim its third straight class championship.
Holy Family lost to Falls City Sacred Heart in Saturday’s consolation game, finishing fourth after placing third the past two seasons and second in 2010.
“I’m proud of the girls and the season they’ve had and what they have accomplished,” stated Bulldog Coach Travis Friesen. “They’ve done everything I’ve asked them to do.”
