City focuses on swimming pool drive

City of Albion will not be holding a fund drive for a community fireworks display this year in order to focus fund-raising efforts on the new swimming pool project.
Andrew Devine, city administrator, announced the new focus for fund-raising in a letter last week to Albion residents and businesses that have contributed to the fireworks display in the past.
The Swimming Pool Committee has set a goal of raising $450,000 for amenities such as a splash pad, a larger slide, shade structures and water features in the pool’s zero-depth entry area.
Recently, the Peter Kiewit Foundation awarded the city a $100,000 challenge grant for this fund drive. In order to receive these funds, the community must raise an additional $125,000 by Dec. 31, 2013. So far, nearly $32,000 in local donations can be counted in matching funds the Kiewit Foundation grant.
New donors during the past week were Roy and Connie Sallach and Bob Heckman.
