Weather warms for BC/NG Cardinal golfers

With Mother Nature cooperating, the Boone Central/Newman Grove boys’ golf team was able to enjoy scheduled competition this past week.
Monday, the Cardinals took advantage of a beautiful day to host the Boone Central Invitational, (postponed from April 13), placing fifth in the 13-team field. Spalding/Spalding Academy was just behind the Cards in sixth and the BC/NG JV finished 12th.

Parker Wallin led Boone Central/Newman Grove, tieing for 15th individually with an 18-hole score of 88 and just missing a medal in a playoff. Spalding/Spalding Academy did have a medalist, as Cain Haschke placed 10th with an 85.
Wayne won Monday’s tournament with a 341 team score, five strokes in front of Ord. Boone Central/Newman Grove finished at 363 and Spalding/Academy compiled a 368 team total.
Hunter Henry and Jackson Meyer eached shot 91 for the Cardinals and Bryce Paulson rounded out the team score with a 93. Joel Meyer shot a 95.
Supporting Haschke for S/SA were John Bernt (91), Kyle Bloom (93) and Brandon Stevens (99). Wyatt Pfeifer shot 111.
Luke Johnson and Blake Olnes paced the BC/NG JV with 103 totals. Jesse Zwiener shot 106, Nathan Hemmer 114 and Jared Zwiener 118.
Sam Morse of Lakeview was the tournament medalist with a one-under par 71.

Boone Central/Newman Grove competed in the Lakeview Invitational Thursday, April 25, at the Columbus Elks Country Club.
The Cardinals recorded a 421 team score, finishing 11th in the 14-team field. Elkhorn South won the tournament title with a 340, six strokes in front of the Norfolk High JV.
Wallin led BC/NG players with an 18-hole score of 100. Completing the Cards’ team total were Paulson (106), Jackson Meyer (107) and Joel Meyer (108). Henry shot 110.
The Boone Central/Newman Grove JV participated in the St. Francis Invitational at Humphrey’s Steepleview Golf Course Thursday.
BC/NG placed ninth in the tournament – second to Norfolk Catholic among JV team competing – with a team score of 427.
Olnes paced BC/NG with an 18-hole score of 100 on rounds of 51/49. Rounding out the team total were Johnson (101), Jared Zwiener (112) and Jesse Zwiener (114). Hemmer shot 115.
