Action on LB 344 to aid Spalding nursing home effort

A bill to assist communities in re-establishing their nursing homes gained final approval in the Nebraska Legislature last week.
LB 344, with the emergency clause attached, passed on a vote of 46-0 and was forwarded to Governor Heineman for his signature. the governor signed the bill on Tuesday, May 7.
The emergency clause means that the bill becomes law immediately upon the Governor’s signature.
This legislation will assist an effort to re-establish a nursing home in Spalding, where the privately owned long-term care facility closed in 2011 and its licensed beds were transferred to one of the company’s facilities in a different community. It allows a narrow exception to a moratorium on the number of licensed long term care beds in the state.
