Three vehicles involved in Wednesday morning accident here

Albion News Photo by Joe Flanagan
Three vehicles, including a Boone Central School bus, were involved in an accident Wednesday morning, May 15, at 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 14 and Columbia Street in Albion.
Albion Police Chief Brent Lipker said Rolan Bentjen, 68, of Albion was driving a 1989 Ford pickup northbound when his vehicle apparently turned in front of a southbound 2008 Dodge one-ton pickup and trailer driven by Michael J. Muller, 58, of Avon, SD. The Muller and Bentjen vehicles collided, causing the Bentjen pickup to spin into the right front of the northbound 2009 Boone Central School bus that was following the Bentjen pickup. The bus was driven by Trevor J. VanDeWalle, 38, of Albion.
Three students were riding on the bus, and none were injured. There were no passengers in the Bentjen or Muller vehicles.
All three drivers were transported to Boone County Health Center by Albion Fire and Rescue. Bentjen required medical treatment. Muller was treated and released, and VanDeWalle was examined and released.
Lipker said the Bentjen pickup was a total loss. Damage to the Muller pickup was extensive, while damage to the school bus was minor to moderate.
