County’s health insurance rates to rise 12%

Boone County Commissioners learned Monday they can expect a 12 percent increase in employee health insurance premium costs.
About two percent of the increase is attributable to the new federal health care legislation, while the remaining 10 percent is due to utilization of the health plan during the past year, according to information provided by Sue Warner, Blue Cross/Blue Shield representative.
The county provides employees with a $1,500 deductible PPO plan. The monthly premium cost will be increasing from $1,467 to $1,643 for family coverage; from $1,282 to $1,436 for employee/spouse or employee/children coverage; and from $638 to $715 for employee-only coverage.
