Albion’s 18 & under girls softball team had no trouble improving its season record this past week with easy victories over St. Edward and Madison.
Albion traveled to St. Edward Tuesday, June 11, and blasted the hosts 15-0 in three innings.
The 18-unders did more than enough damage in the opening frame, sending 15 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs in the first inning. Albion took advantage of six walks in the inning and also had two batters hit by pitches. Brianna Brugman, Becca Reicks and Miranda Ketteler had base hits, Reicks driving in two runs, and a St. Edward error brought in another Albion run.
Shannon Stuhlmiller’s two-run double keyed a three-run second inning for Albion and the 18-unders took advantage of six walks and a pair of passed balls to add three final runs in the third.
Albion fashioned another blowout at home Thursday, dispatching visiting Madison 20-1 in three innings at the Albion Sports Complex.
Reicks drove in Molt with a single and later scored on two passed balls to give the 18-unders a 2-0 lead in the first.
Madison cut the margin in half with a run in the top of the second before Albion ended any doubts of the outcome in the bottom of the frame.
In another big inning, Albion had 22 batters come to the plate and scored 18 runs in building a whopping 20-1 lead.
The first seven Albion batters walked before Osborn hit a single. Four more walks followed before Ketteler cleared the bases with a grand slam home run. The locals had four more walks and base hits by Kelsey Lee (2) and Stuhlmiller in the frame.
