There have been a number of running events in Albion and surrounding communities over the years.
It’s doubtful any were as “colorful” as Saturday’s initial Louis Hoppe Memorial Run, held in conjunction with Albion’s Alumni weekend.
A strong turnout of all ages enjoyed the ‘Color Run’ format on a cool, breezy morning, beginning on the east side of Albion’s Fuller Park. Runners traversed a 5K course that led west of the Albion Country Club to Highway 91 and back to the park, while walkers followed the same course at an abbreviated distance.
Kevin Carder was the Top Overall Male, finishing in a time of 16:45. Carmen Harvey was the Top Overall Female (20:17). When awards were handed out, event organizers credited Dawson Murphy, who ran the course in 26:57, as “the fastest nine-year old we’ve ever seen.”
All proceeds from the event went to the Louis Hoppe Memorial Scholarship Fund.
