Big rain, hail hit area Aug. 1

A vehicle plows through deep water on east Fairview Street after the Aug. 1 storm.Albion received its biggest rain in several years during a span of about 45 minutes last Thursday evening, Aug. 1.
Unfortunately, the storm also brought hail that damaged some area crops. Most of the hail was pea sized to marble sized, and some was estimated at golf ball size northwest of Albion.
The rain started at about 5:30 p.m. in the Albion area and had stopped by about 6:30. The large amount of rain in a short time caused some local streets to flood, as well as some wet basements around the area.
Local weather observer Steve Wright measured 2.71 inches from the storm.
